Our goal is to get you out of therapy and back to your life by using the tools and insights you have gained.
Our therapists are at the top of their field, and use only the most advanced evidence-based treatment methods to help our clients.
COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is one of the best validated types of therapy, and one of the core methods used at Overmire Family Therapy. CBT is a type of treatment with an emphasis on the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. This type of therapy helps you become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking so you can deal with difficult situations with a more sense of clarity and respond to them more effectively. Our therapists prefer using CBT because it has proven to be an effective and helpful tool in treating mental health in cases involving depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or eating disorders. It can also be a great tool to help you to better manage stressful life situations.
There are a number of specific types of therapeutic approaches that involve CBT, including:
COGNITIVE THERAPY focuses on identifying and changing inaccurate or distorted thinking patterns, emotional responses, and behaviors.
DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOR THERAPY (DBT) addresses thoughts and behaviors while incorporating strategies such as emotional regulation and mindfulness.
MULTIMODAL THERAPY centers on the notion that psychological issues have to be treated by addressing seven different but interconnected modalities: behavior, affect, sensation, imagery, cognition, interpersonal factors, and drug/biological considerations.
RATIONAL EMOTIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY (REBT) involves identifying irrational beliefs, actively challenging them, and finally learning to recognize and change these thought patterns.
Each of these types of CBT takes a different approach. However, they all work to address the underlying thought patterns that contribute to psychological stress.
